Combining ability analysis in sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.)

A study was carried out to assess the combining ability of ten CMS lines with four testers using line x tester method. Biometrical observations were taken for days 50% flowering, plant height, head diameter, maturity, volume weight, hundred seed yield /plant, oil content and yield/plant.  Specific combing variance greater than general all characters which indicated that non-additive gene action played a major role in inheritance.  The gca parents not agreement per se performance various traits.  Hence, selection should be based on alone breeding programme. Three viz., COSF 12A, 13A 207A, IR 6 identified as good combiners yield.  Among hybrids generated combiners, had additive type plant.  In general, most crosses non-significant sca presence an action.  content, will help evolve high yielding sunflowers.
